OFFSHORE FISHING REPORTS-- Quepos, Costa Rica, Marina Pez Vela

It kicks off the season with lots of action and variety.

One thing is for certain, the meat fish was not in short supply. The dorado are so thick, at times, they wouldn't let the sails get to the bait. There were some yellowfin tuna around two to three days a week.

Fall is known as a good blue marlin months, Late November and December, that this is the time of year to keep in your fishing plans for 2024.

October 2023

This year the "Green Season" (rainy season which runs from May until October) had been very dry compared to previous years.

The yellowfin tuna had been quite difficult in Quepos, Costa Rica. There were great pods of spinner dolphins that could throw everything, including the kitchen sink, and they wouldn't bite. But you always have that inquisitive one! Our captains always find success at the end of the day.

Lots of work done on the boats! New bottom paint and facelifts. Got ready for the high season.

September 2023

We did a little bit of deep-dropping to get the customers fillets for dinner fare.

Here in Quepos, fishing was most successful with live bait. The sailfish were extremely picky, as trolling with live bait requires the boat to travel slower in order to keep the bait alive. Live bait is a good alternative to artificial lures. However, we were still dragging artificial and ballyhoo, as well.

All of our boats across the fleet of Quepos Fish Adventures were averaging 1 to 4 sailfish per day.

Captains were able to find buoys and underwater debris where the bait congregated and were of high interest to billfish and an occasional bull mahi mahi.
